High Blood Pressure: Ways To Keep It Normal
September 7th, 2010 by admin
Millions of Americans suffer from high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, and many of them may not even know it. The condition is the number one cause of strokes, heart attacks, and complete kidney failure. Left untreated, hypertension can become extremely serious and may even lead to early death. Fortunately, there are a number of simple ways to safely lower your blood pressure.
The first thing you should do is lower your sodium intake. Salt is natural and found in most foods, but can be very unhealthy in large doses. Eating sodium in moderation will have a profound impact on your health. Cutting out salty junk foods and sodium packed sauces will go a long way. Learn to pay close attention to food labels and the nutritional info of the meals you eat.
Regular exercise is another way to maintain a healthy blood pressure. Things like daily cardio or even just a brisk thirty minute walk will be able to sufficiently treat your hypertension. Stay as active as possible as often as possible and engage in things that are fun and that you won’t be likely to quit like dancing or gymnastics. Many have had success with all-natural supplements such as Alistrol also.
Stress can often be a leading factor in high blood pressure, sometimes it is even the only factor. Physicians and scientists have only recently discovered how much stress can negatively effect the body. To lower your own stress levels try working less and spending more time by yourself. You could also take up a new hobby to help you relax. Get a new pet or commit yourself to taking long morning walks. You could also try getting more sleep by getting to bed a little earlier each night.
After you embark on a blood pressure lowering regimen, make sure that you check and monitor your levels regularly. Make sure that your sphygmomanometer is kept calibrated and use it often. It may be helpful to keep track of your blood pressure with a chart or diary. And most importantly, make regular appointments with your doctor so that he can monitor and be kept up to date on your progress.
