3 SEO Techniques That Are A Waste Of Time

January 9th, 2010 by admin

There are many alleged SEO techniques out there that increase rank and pull in thousands of search visitors. The most popular form of SEO is google search engine optimisation, and is used by many webmasters to rank highly on the Google search engine for certain key phrases.

Despite the advice of many so called experts there is also a lot of bad advice out there, advice that is basically a waste of time and that will cost you crucial hours in your Internet marketing campaign.

The first myth is that your website must be submitted to authority directories DMOZ and Yahoo. These are 2 of the most well known directories on the web and even Google make reference to them. Despite this you do not need them to attain high rankings on Google, yes submit once but then get on with more productive tasks.

The second is that you have to engage in social media. It is ture social media can drive a lot of traffic to your site but this does not mean this traffic is profitable or that it will help you get links to your content. Most Internet marketers soon realise that social traffic is neither beneficial or worthwhile.

The first thing you find out when looking into SEO techniques is that you need links and many so called experts advise you to contact other webmasters with a view to exchanging links. Until your site has some decent authority and PageRank, this is a complete waste of time. Concentrate on building your sites content and getting links through article marketing and directory submissions before worrying about link partners and exchanges.
