Car Buying Tips at State Auctions

A lot of people are wary when it comes to buying from State vehicle auctions. They are scared that they will get a lemon or car that will just give them a headache. Something like this will just turn out to be a bigger expense than actually buying a new car. We can’t really say that all of the cars sold in places like these are in mint condition. But you can make sure that you don’t end up with a clunker by keeping these few tips in mind when you buy repo cars:

1.       When in doubt consult an expert- if you know that you are no genius when it comes to cars, don’t do the assessing yourself. Take a friend, family member or even your mechanic with you. Anyone who can help you figure out quickly whether the car you want is in a good condition or not is a perfect candidate for the job.

2.       Look at the obvious- even if you aren’t an expert there are some things that we can all figure out. If you lift the mats and find rust all over the flooring you surely won’t be getting that car. Look for obvious signs of wear and tear; if a car has a lot it may not be the best choice for you.

3.       Check the mileage- this is actually one of the best ways to see just how much a car has been used. You’ll get a good idea how far it has travel and whether it has been driven a lot or not. Of course lower mileage means it has been used less.

4.       Look at the car history- this may need a little bit more of work than the rest but it will be worth it. Ask to see the records of the car. You don’t want to buy anything that has been in a major accident in the past. It is likely that a lot damage has been done and just fixed up.
