Craniofacial Implants for Plastic Surgery

January 22nd, 2010 by admin

Sometimes there are accidents that happen that leave people with scars and wounds that they will always remember. Sometimes it makes sense that the scars will heal themselves. There are other times when it is almost impossible to do anything to a wound unless there is something else that is added to it to give it more support. There are accidents that happen that leave a part of the skull or the face fractured, or damaged in a way that it is impossible to leave it alone, or the skull or face will not heal correctly. It needs more stability, a part of the bone that needs replaced. For this reason, they have something called craniofacial implants. These really help to give support to the face, and make it possible for the skull or face to look normal again.

Thanks to a team of skilled surgeons, they use craniofacial implants to reconstruct the area that was damaged. They are able to take skin from other parts of the body to cover over the face, or areas that have been damaged to the point that they will not be able to repair itself. It is amazing to see the kind of surgery that can be done for someone who is in need of a new face or skull.

Since this is considered major surgery, it is not in the category of typical “plastic surgery.” These kinds of procedures are done when someone has a real need for a new part of the face or skull to be reconstructed. While some people might want to use this kind of technology to change part of the face, or make it look different, this is not the main purpose of a surgery like this.

Without really knowing what might look normal ever again, it is amazing to see the work of the skilled doctors that have performed surgeries like this. Most people who have had this kind of work done have said that they are amazed at how smooth and seamless it looks. It is an amazing ability that the medical field has been given for patients that need this kind of care.
