Having provable work experience as a kitchen assistant, sous chef, or apprentice. If you choose to enter the food industry as an apprentice, you will likely be paid very little for your efforts. However, you will gain valuable insight into the culinary arts, receive certification, and acquire references that will look good on your resume.
If you are willing to put in the required effort, it is possible to find a high-paying position at a hotel-restaurant or high-end diner. Working as an executive chef in one of these situations could earn you well over 100 USD per hour.
