Making the Most of your Job Search

January 29th, 2010 by admin

So many people are unemployed right now, and yet so many people are not even trying to get a job.  By reading this before you begin your job search you are among the few, the few that will not only be successful in getting a job but you will be successful in getting a job you like.  One common misconception out and about right now is that there are no jobs available. While it is true that there are less jobs available, there are jobs out there.  With so many people believing that there are no jobs and not even trying, that opens more possibilities for you.

Getting started on the right foot is key, before you begin your job search you need to have a completed, updated resume.  Not the same one you used years ago to get your last job, you need to take the time to go over t with a fine tooth comb and make sure every word is supportive of your getting the job.  Updating your skills, adding your jobs, rewording your current history, whatever it takes.  Get your resume perfect then print several copies on nice paper to have ready when you need them, this way you are not scrambling around trying to get one ready when needed.

Your next step in a successful job search should be actually looking, don’t limit your search to the local paper, include places like the Internet, door to door, friends and old coworkers, use every resource you have. You may find a job that has not been advertised yet, you may find a job that does not even exist at the time.  Talking to companies, offering your services, telling them why you should be hired before they get a chance to say they are not hiring. Be persistent, and don’t give up after a few no answers.

By being persistant and prepared in your job search you will be much more likely to find the job you want to have.  Not giving into the excuse that everyone seems to have and not even trying to find one will be your key to success.  So many people tend to try for a week then give up, saying to themselves and everyone else, “no jobs in this economy” that kind of thinking will land you with no job, by thinking like that before you even give it a good shot you are shooting yourself in the foot.
